Detailed Description:

Wifi is simply a wireless internet connection, and it actually stands for Wireless Fidelity. You can find wifi connections in many places when you travel, if you are staying in a hotel, then first you should always ask if they provide wifi internet connections and you should also ask them if it is free or how much does it cost. I like staying at the Baymont Inn, because they are always well priced and always have free wifi in their rooms (at least the ones I have stayed at). Many hotels are now offering this, but many are also charging, places like the Marriot and other big name hotels might try to hit you for $10 a day to use it, so always ask about wifi and the cost when looking around for hotel reservations.

Many other places are also offering wifi service, look for coffee houses which are famous for this. Some coffee houses like "Sippers" have free wifi, others like "Starbucks" have wifi but will charge you to use it. Panera Bread offers free wifi, so its definitely worth going there even if you are not hungry (heh at least buy some coffee from them if you are going to sit there and use their wifi) just to use their wifi when you are on the road or just want a place to read some news. I have even seen some subways (the sandwich place) that offers this, but that is up to each individual owner so its not country wide like Panera. It is much more wide spread then you think today, if in doubt simply call around to some businesses and ask, coffee shops and downtown areas are your best bet, and almost everywhere has a Panera you can use! Also, today you can see all the wireless locations by simply turning on your laptop and clicking your wireless icon in your system tray, always look for a free connection before paying as more often then not (especially in airports), there is a free connection within reach.
