Detailed Description:

Rats are a term that basically defines another type of virus, known as a trojan virus. Trojans are files that activate at specific times, for example a trojan would be a virus that activates on a specific date or time, etc. Rat trojans are very similiar but they activate when you visit a specific website, thereby logging your keystrokes and sending to a remote location. In other words they may look for the name of a famous bank in your web URL and then activate if it finds a match, hoping to log and send your keystrokes to some remote site (usually a foreign country outside of the United States). Rats are dangerous and should be taken seriously as it can give people access to your bank account if the trojan captures this data. Removing rat trojans can vary, as there is no one specific type, a rat defines a general type of virus, not a specific one. The best way to find and remove any type of trojan is to keep an eye on your startup programs list, as they must be listed there to activate whenever you reboot your computer. Keep an eye on these types of things as you will be aware that something fishy is happening if the startup list suddenly gets larger or changes to include new programs (for example you didn't install any new programs yet something still appeared there).
