I recently purchased prescription eyeglasses online and wanted to share this story as I thought it may help others out. I was looking for prescription sunglasses, so I called around to several places (including the same place I bought my existing eyeglasses and frames), and basically the cost was the same as my existing eyeglasses ($180.....I guess I thought maybe the lenses or frames would be cheaper since they were sunglasses only). I checked around online and ended up buy prescription sunglasses at goggles4u.com (They have several different sites but this was the name I used)..... anyways it ended up costing only $35. That included shipping, which makes me realize just how much markup there is on frames and lenses. $180 vs. $35? I figured if something got screwed up I could order 4 more times and it would still be cheaper the $180! Anyways, the site is a little tedious to fill out, as you need to get your prescription info from your eye doctor to enter on the site, and you have to measure your existing glasses. I thought it was cool they had a paper ruler you could print out also for measuring the glasses, which is what I used. The bottom line is although its alot of looking on their site (to verify everything and find your frames you want and those that match your measurements), you save alot of $ here. I was really happy with the glasses when I got them (yesterday) and just use them in the car. For $145 cheaper its nice to know if I break them I can easily get another pair alot cheaper then what the retail eyeglass places are charging.
