Detailed Description:

There are several ways to lock folders on your computer and protect your data, and these methods are very secure and will surely keep even the best computer people out of your secure folder. First, if you are running Windows XP Pro, then there is already an option to add a password to your folders, and secure them. Simply right click any folder, go to properties, and then to security and you will see options for this. Locking folders this way is available only on Windows XP Pro, so if you are running Windows XP home as most users are, then password protecting folders to lock them is not an option. There are many freeware and shareware programs that can also do similiar things for XP home, but the best is a new tool which is free from Microsoft. This tool is specifically for your XP home users and can be downloaded on their website. You used to be able to download it with the following link, but this can change of course. http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/offers/Details.aspx?displaylang=en&coun trycode=USA&offerid=441c2998-248b-49cf-b084-f3a237b58f71 (Cut and paste in your browser). If the link has changed, then search for it with Yahoo or Google, its called Microsoft privacy folder. This allows you to password protect any folder on your pc, even the contents of the folder are unviewable without the password, and this is your best option if you do not have XP Pro. unviewable without the password, and this is your best option if you do not have XP Pro.
