View List Detailed Description: These sand trout photos shown below are close up pictures showing you exactly what a sand trout fish looks like. Sand trout, often called "sandtrout" as one word, are caught in salt water or brine water, and are often quite small. These are good eating fish and are similiar to a panfish due to their size, but it is hard to catch sandtrout that are large enough to fillet or clean. If you get some up to 12 inches long then you are catching some nice sized ones. Sandtrout are known as bait stealers, and some people actually use these whole as bait for larger ocean fish, or they cut them up for bait just as others do with other small fish. Please remember to always following fishing regulations for catch and release, as it is important to release fish to help keep the population strong for the next time you go out fishing. Releasing larger fish that produce the most eggs is also critical, and remember when releasing fish that you handle them as little as possible, and get them back into the water as soon as you can.
